Our Story

At Beautifully Broken Counseling, Cathy Kirkland, Ph.D., founded the practice alongside her husband, Todd Kirkland, Ph.D., and their daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Kirkland. For 20 years, they were told they could not have children; yet, Hannah’s arrival was a miraculous blessing that shaped both their family and their mission.

Emerging from difficult formative experiences, they discovered the transformative power of functional relationships. Guided by faith, Dr. Cathy left corporate life to become a counselor, and together they built a practice dedicated to helping others thrive.

From a small home office, the practice has grown into multiple locations. Marla Hamm, Ph.D., leads the Murfreesboro office, and Rev. Cindy Gray, M.Div., directs the Manchester location. Each carries forward the heart of Beautifully Broken Counseling: personal connection, faith, and a commitment to healing.

We are available for speaking engagements—large or small—and Hannah is also available to speak to teens regarding self-esteem and faith. No matter the location, our core values remain the same: authentic care, faith-driven healing, and the power of functional family life.
